CIRCLE STORIES @ The Caledonian School, Prague, 2001

Upper-intermediate students: Michail Kourotchine, Tomas Holan, Daniella Slavitsova, Petr Przhetsechtyel, Lenka Geroltova, Zuzana Letakova, Katka Kvasnichkova, Jan Vondras

Each student wrote a sentence or two on a given topic (i.e. describe where the man and woman met), covered up their writing and passed the story to the person next to them. After seven rotations the students read the finished stories aloud.

I. Tomas Koshek was tall and loud, but a bit stupid.
Jane Simms was a beautiful, open-minded, friendly woman, but she was poor.
They met for the first time at a charity banquet.
Jane was interested in Tom because he was her favourite actor, so she started to talk to him.
When Tom saw her for the first time, he said, "Oh, why are you so drunk? Are you sure that you won't throw up?"
"Thanks, I'm fine, and how are you?" she replied.
Later they ran to a market store to buy a big package of condoms.
Everyone started to applaud and the women were crying.
She realized he was so strange that she decided to leave him.

II. Once upon a time Mathias Roith was a nice and handsome guy, but he was sometimes a little bit crazy; he lived in London.
He met a girl in a cheap brothel.
She looked like a small frog, but in fact she was witty and open-minded; her name was Michaela Pachova.
He started a conversation: "Nice weather we've been having."
"You are so nice to me," she said.
Afterwards, he went away and she waited for a train.
People weren't surprised that they didn't get along.
For her it was an embarrassing situation; she couldn't stand going among the people.

III. It was a nice day.
Mr. Brown, a tall, intelligent, smart, and phlegmatic person met Lenka, a very nervous, always smiling, and open-minded girl in a fast food restaurant.
He wanted to sit somewhere and she had a free place next to her.
She was there on her own, so they started to talk.
"Sorry," he said.
"I'm glad that you like it," she replied.
After this she threw up on his new suit.
His friends disagreed with his choice; they thought she wasn't the girl for him.
But after solving all troubles they had a very good marriage, ten sons, and five daughters.

IV. Once upon a time two people met somewhere.
His name was Josef: he was a nervous, sometimes selfish, but honest man.
Her name was Sarah: she was an attractive, clever, talkative, sometimes jealous and nervous woman, and she became easily argumentative.
They met at the railway station and he bumped into her, then said, "You've got such a pretty dress. Haven't we met?"
"What? Drunk? Impossible! Never!" she responded.
Josef wasn't stupid and invited her for a drink.
She agreed and they went to the railway station restaurant.
She liked whiskey, so she became a little bit drunk quite soon.
People who saw them together started to wonder.
"Have you heard? They are together! Wow, that's amazing!" sounded in the town.
They got married soon and after two months got divorced.

V. This is a story about the unforgettable meeting of Miroslav Donutil and Eva Spilhara.
He is known as a very communicative, witty, and intelligent man and she is a friendly and witty girl who likes sport and rabbits.
Our main actors met in a tram.
He was standing on her foot and she got really angry with him.
They started to fight.
After a few minutes he asked, opening his wallet, "How much?"
"Do you really think so?" she wondered and thought he was an idiot.
She won the fight, but suddenly the police came and arrested them.
Yes, this struggle began their friendship.
After this accident they enjoyed a movie together and then they went for a drink.
Nobody noticed and they decided to just be friends.

VI. Robert Clark was a powerful, determined, but cruel and evil man.
Leona Machalkova was a loser; she was unsuccessful, naive, and without talent.
They met in a restaurant.
She was drunk and he helped her into a taxi.
"Are you o.k.?" he asked when he first saw her.
"Anytime, anywhere," she replied.
Then they went to the cinema.
People who knew them thought they were either stupid or crazy.
He was so terrible and unfaithful to her that she split up with him.
She doesn't want to see him any more.

VII. Bill Clinton is a handsome, problematic, irresponsible, and sensible man.
Britney Spears is a sexy, stupid, and small girl.
When he first saw her, he said, "Would you mind helping me with my problem? I have lost my purse and I really need to borrow a ticket for public transport."
She gave him one and told him not to be worried about his purse.
Then he carelessly stood on her foot; immediately he said sorry.
"Doesn't matter," she replied.
Then he walked away from her.
They met again in a conversation club.
The theme was quite boring, so he used some funny but clever pick-up lines.
She was laughing at the beginning and then said, "O.k., let's try it."
He did very well, and therefore she stood up, came to him, and started kissing him.
People around them were disgusted.
They made out very passionately.
She couldn't stop it; he behaved like a real gentleman.
After that event they saw each other for some time, but at last they broke up.

VIII. I would like to tell you a story about two people.
He is a very famous, world-known person: Bruce Willis is small, clever, and handsome with an attractive personality.
Ilona Czakova is a stupid, ambitious person without personality.
They met in a swimming pool.
He saved her life while she was drowning and gave her first aid.
When she started to breathe, he told her, "I am lost, which way to your heart?"
She didn't say anything and slapped him on his face.
After this she answered with a smile, "I don't mind."
After a while he invited her to see his butterfly collection and they left.
Their friends thought they looked beautiful together and were a very nice couple.
But it's very surprising that they've never seen each other since then.
